May 23, 2008   We added an update to the end of this update.  Also, our email was not getting through to us on the "contact us" part of this site.  This has been corrected so now we will receive the emails.  We are sorry if you tried to get in touch with us.  The emails are floating around in cyberspace!

Hello,

Once again we have run into some problems.  Malena’s counts have just started to come back up but as of today she hasn’t had chemo for 3 weeks.  She has also developed a rash that no one seems to be able to diagnosis.  It could be a reaction to the meds she was on for the bacterial infection or maybe it is part of a virus that we never knew she had…who knows?  She is scheduled to receive chemo today but we have to go to the dermatologist first to get the ok from her.  They don’t want her to receive treatments if this rash doesn’t start improving.  Also, they are doing a bone marrow aspiration just to make sure she hasn’t relapsed.  The doctors don’t believe she has but this will let us know 100% and that will be reassuring!

Malena looks and acts great!  She participated in her moving up ceremony from preschool.  That was the 1st time she was at school in about 4 weeks due to her low counts and she loved being there!  I can’t believe she will be going into Kindergarten in the fall.  My baby…

We will let you know how today goes.  Please say a little prayer for us!

Love, Suzanne

As of today, May 29, Malena is doing great.  The rash has started to disappear and she is back on chemotherapy.  We also received a call fron her oncologist, Dr. Fitzpatrick.  She told us that the bone marrow looked great and there has not been a relapse!  Hurray!!!!  163 days!  We can do it!
